They bring their goods to market to sell from the smaller surrounding towns. I was extremely grateful for this central location because the topography surrounding San Cristobal is dense jungle with narrow, winding roads that have endless speed bumps built by indigenous groups who want you to slow down to see what they are selling. I spent a few days on those roads and lets just say, I preferred San Cristobal.
